With over 3,400 companies with an FTZ operation employing over 470,000 nationwide, the Foreign-Trade Zone Program saw over $624 billion in annual trade activity and $94.2 billion in exports from zones.
Nationally, consumer electronics accounted for the highest volume of products received by warehouse and distribution operators, while oil and petroleum topped the list in 2020 for production users.
Ohio rounded out the top ten in terms of merchandise received nationwide, and pharmaceuticals accounted for nearly half of foreign status products to FTZs in the state. Zone #46, which encompasses Brown, Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren Counties, saw over 500 people employed by FTZ operators and over $100 million in received products.
Meanwhile, Kentucky was just behind Ohio nationally in merchandise received with machinery, equipment, and textiles making up the majority of the products by value. Zone #47, which encompasses Boone, Campbell, and Kenton Counties, received over $5 billion in merchandise in 2020, and operators employed over 500 people.
